Alphabet Design
The 2 sets of the alphabet were designed base on the poem "Dreams and Enemy" created by Langston Hughes.
The Poem
Dreams
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
Enemy
It would be nice
In any case,
To someday meet you
Face to face
Walking down
The road to hell...
As I come up
Feeling swell.
The Process
Drawing inspiration from the poem, I've crafted two distinct styles to represent "dreams" and "enemy" effectively. For "dreams," the design incorporates numerous positive elements such as flowers, symbols of luck, and intricate patterns to evoke feelings of hope and happiness. Conversely, the depiction of the "enemy" incorporates a blend of horrifying elements combined with Ukiyo-e elements from Japan, infusing the design with a sense of decadent beauty juxtaposed with darkness. This approach aims to visually capture the contrasting themes of the poem while engaging the audience with evocative imagery.
